Requirements for being an Au Pair in Spain
We can unfortunately no longer accept further applications at the moment. You can find a list of Au Pair agencies in Spain at www.agenciasaupairaepa.es who will be happy to help you.
The following requirements are general for the Spanish program. If you have any doubt, do not hesitate in contacting us via email or phone on the +34 674 06 06 07.
- Age between 18 and 30 years old. Usually, it is easier for female Au Pairs to find Host Families. However, if you are a male Au Pair, we encourage you to contact us with enough time to process your profile.
- Single and with no children.
- Basic knowledge of Spanish. Some people require an intermediate level, but most of them are fine with a basic level. An advanced level of English is required in most cases.
- Flexibility and ability to adjust to a new environment are a must. It is important to be open-minded, as the traditions in Spain are different from your country's. Honesty and responsibility are as well essential.
- Childcare experience (two references). Professional experience (summer camps, kindergartens, etc.) is not mandatory, but it is advisable.
- Experience in doing household duties.
- Preferably non-smoker, as Host Families prefer Au Pairs that do not smoke.
- No criminal records (a certificate must be handed).
- Good state of health (a certificate must be handed).
- Preferably with driving license, although it is not a requirement.
- Valid passport.
- Health care coverage. If you come from a member country from the European Union, it is mandatory that you bring tour European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and it is recommended you have, as well, a private insurance. If you come from a non-EU country, it is mandatory that you have a private insurance (the Host Family is likely to pay for half of the insurance in this case).
- If you come from a non-EU country and you are planning on staying longer than three months, you will need a visa to live in Spain. This will be a student visa, so when you apply for it, you will need to be enrolled in a Spanish academy for language classes. If your stay is shorter than three months and you come from a country that belongs to the Schengen area (such as USA, Canada or Australia) you will not be required to have a visa nor to be enrolled into a language school.
